E-bikes are everywhere, and we know there is growing frustration and concern in our community about children riding them—especially when it comes to safety.

We understand the concerns of parents, drivers, and residents. We are seeing more young people riding e-bikes on our streets, sidewalks, and around neighborhoods, and with that comes a responsibility for everyone to do their part to keep our kids safe.

For our young riders, please remember:

• Know the rules of the road and follow them.
  • Wear a properly fitted helmet every time.
  • Stay alert and put the phone away while riding.
  • Do not ride against traffic or weave in and out of vehicles.
  • Use extra caution at intersections and when crossing streets.
  • Be visible to motorists, especially in the evening.
  • Do not carry passengers unless the bike is specifically designed for it.
  • Parents—please know where your children are riding and talk with them about e-bike safety.

Drivers also have a responsibility. Slow down, stay alert, and remember that a child on an e-bike can be difficult to see and may make unpredictable movements.

Most importantly, let’s remember that these are kids. We want them to enjoy being outside, having fun, and getting around our community—but we want them to make it home safely.

Our goal is simple: Keep our kids safe.
